This breed is very old and descends from the the Molossus; Romans used them for bull and bear baiting, which was widely spread in England up to the 19th century. Careful selecting was made against the dogs' ferocity and their physical characteristics were accentuated. This breed is good at protecting and guarding, its main characteristics are: high pain threshold, powerfull jaws, and agility. Some dogs may be stubborn and wishing to dominate due to poor training.
